Plain NFC Tags

With the increase in popularity of NFC technology, more devices are available that can be paired with NFC tags. Plain or blank NFC tags contain a microchip that can be programed by a user, instead of using pre-programmed tags. This enables unique customizations for a wide range of applications, such as NFC device pairing, smart posters, consumer goods information, data logging, and more.  

Plain NFC tags from Infineon support NFC Forum Type 2 Tag operation. These NFC rewritable tags are available with multiple memory options. These include plain mode with open memory access or secure mode with memory access controlled by authentication procedures.

Typical NFC applications that can be enabled with these blank NFC tags include consumer engagement wherein customers can embed tags in consumer goods such as luxury items, toys, pharmaceuticals, or smart packaging to create interactive experiences with consumers via a tap with a smartphone.

Infineon's portfolio of plain NFC Type 2 certified tags offers a small footprint and are a cost-optimized solution to easily embed NFC into any application. Additionally, our range of NFC rewritable tags are low cost and can be rewritten thousands of times. However, it is also possible to lock an NFC Type 2 tag so changes to the tag can’t be made any more.
