Ventures News: Jungo and SurfControl Introduce CPE-Based Web Filtering Software
San Jose & Scotts Valley, Calif. - November 25, 2003 - Jungo® Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential and SOHO gateway software, and SurfControl (London: SRF), the world's number one Web and e-mail filtering company, today announced the introduction of a Web filtering software solution for residential and SOHO gateways. The new solution integrates SurfControl's Web filtering technology with Jungo's OpenRG? residential gateway software to create a new services platform for broadband customer premise equipment (CPE).
Service providers that deploy the solution in their CPE will be able to generate new revenues from Web filtering services. These services will benefit parents who wish to protect their children from offensive and adult content, as well as small businesses that seek to prevent lost productivity caused by unrestricted Internet access.
SurfControl owns the world's leading content database, which contains over 6 million websites, held in 40 categories, representing over 900 million pages in 65 languages, with 35,000 new sites being added per week. By allowing this extensive database to seamlessly communicate with Jungo's OpenRG software deployed in residential and SOHO gateways, both companies are able to offer customer premise equipment (CPE) vendors and service providers a highly reliable and easy-to-use Web filtering service, specifically designed for home and SOHO users.
"With Jungo's impressive customer list and expertise in the home and SOHO networking market, we are able to deliver managed web filtering to more end-users, and enable service providers to deliver a service that is in high demand," said Nick Outteridge Director of OEM Technology Partnerships at SurfControl.
A report by In-Stat/MDR published in October 2003, highlights the strong growth of the Broadband CPE Big Three Market - Residential Gateway, Modem & SOHO Router. In terms of the Residential Gateway Market revenue is predicted to increase from US$338 million in 2003 to US$1.4 billion by 2007, showing a CAGR of 33 per cent over the four years.
Outteridge continued: "With the tremendous growth in the Residential Gateway market there is huge potential for forward thinking companies to take the lead in developing this growth market. Jungo and SurfControl have come together to create a powerful joint solution that maximizes the benefits of the combined technologies, creating a new revenue opportunity for service providers and an enhanced services platform for the end user. We are confident that the relationship will provide a strong basis for continued development within the market."
The Jungo-SurfControl solution is available immediately for trial and can be remotely uploaded to a range of broadband access devices, which are already deployed and powered by Jungo's OpenRG software. These devices include cable and DSL modems, wireless access points, stand-alone gateways and integrated access devices.
With an extremely small footprint and very low processing requirements, the new solution is easy to add to existing hardware. In addition, from the user's perspective, the solution is easy to manage. No software is needed on PCs or other terminals on the home/SOHO network, and a user-friendly Web-based interface allows the home user or SOHO network administrator to easily define the content allowed, both throughout the network and on each individual terminal.
"Jungo is committed to building the world's most comprehensive and innovative services platform that can continuously provide new revenue opportunities to our customers," said Yaal Eshel, Jungo's Director of Marketing. "By partnering with SurfControl, we are able to offer our customers a managed service based on the most relevant, accurate and up-to-date Web content database available."
