Bitcast: TOLT (top-side cooling) MOSFET Package for Superior Thermal Performance

TOLT MOSFET Package for Superior Thermal Performance

Cooling is a crucial challenge for any high power system - especially high power drives - which must account for heat generated losses from high power switches. Infineon’s innovative TOLT package provides a creative MOSFET solution for dissipating heat through a top-side thermal pad directly into a heatsink rather than to the board, enabling improved thermal performance and high power density.

Join us for a 30-minute bitcast to learn more about this viable alternative to backside cooling and how you can use the TOLT package for your next high current design.

What Attendees Will Learn:

  • The importance and advantages of top side cooling
  • Infineon’s latest TOLT portfolio
  • Heat-sinking options for TOLT

Benefits of Slew Rate Control in Infineon's MOTIX™ Smart Gate Drivers in Motor Control Applications

Control of MOSFET VDS rise and fall times is one of the most important parameters for optimizing drive systems, affecting critical factors like:

  • Switching losses
  • Dead time optimization
  • VDS ringing with possible avalanche event in MOSFETs. Avalanche is a critical factor in MOSFETs that can lead to device
    destruction or reliability issues
  • EMI design and optimizations
  • Control of negative spike in SHx pins
  • Possible snubber design (MOSFET snubber or bridge bypass capacitors)

Join our experts Walid Jarmakani and Harish Subramanya to discover the benefits of slew rate control in Infineon’s smart gate driver for BLDC/PMSM motor applications.

Explore how it can control independently the rise (low to high) and fall (high to low) slew rates of the drain-to-source voltage by adjusting the gate current applied to MOSFET gate.

Key Take Aways:

  • Learn how Infineon's MOTIX™ motor control gate drivers reduce inverter power losses and the risk of avalanche
  • Explore opportunities for flexible EMI optimization
  • Examine paths to potentially lower MOSFET BV
  • Discover how these smart gate drivers drive down costs with a lower bill of materials
  • Optimize circuit layout with a compact inverter PCB design for better system integration

Power Semiconductor Selection and Insights for Your Next Design

Power Semiconductor Selection webinar

Now more than ever, power semiconductors including Silicon-junction (SJ), Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC), are critical materials within the power conversion market. New technologies such as SiC & GaN are not only making older systems perform at higher levels, but are creating new markets that were never known to be possible prior to their adoption.

Given the current market conditions you can expect strong demand and tight supply for all three technologies for at least another three to five years. This training will help designers take a fresh look at these three technologies and help decide where each best fits your application given technical, cost and availability considerations.

What Attendees will Learn:

  • Silicon-junction, Silicon Carbide and Gallium Nitride technology overviews and comparison;
  • Cost and availability of different power semiconductors;
  • How to read datasheet metrics to choose the right MOSFET for your application;
  • An understanding of avalanche ratings, EAS and MOSFET robustness;
  • Packaging and thermal considerations for modern power conversion applications
