Upper Austria honors the state's most innovative companies

Linz, September 07, 2021 - The Infineon team in Linz emerged as the winner in the category for large companies. The Upper Austrian State Prize for Innovation recognizes innovative ideas, projects and companies.

The 12-member jury had a difficult time choosing among the first-class entries. Ultimately Infineon Technologies Linz prevailed in the category for large companies with the project "Radar-based Driving Assistance Systems for All Vehicle Classes". In the small and medium-sized enterprises category, the winner was cortEXplore GmbH. The research institutions category was won by JKU Linz. The jury prize for "Radical Innovation" went to Fametec Gmbh.

The Upper Austrian Innovation Award 2021 is a cooperation of the Province of Upper Austria and the Upper Austrian business location agency Business Upper Austria in collaboration with WKO Upper Austria - sparte.industrie, Sparkasse OÖ, ORF Upper Austria and "OÖ-Krone".

Radar-based driving assistance systems for all vehicle classes

Radar technology is essential for vehicle safety and helps to actively prevent accidents by detecting the traffic situation regardless of weather and light conditions. However, until now this was an expensive additional feature. With the innovations of the latest radar generation from Infineon Linz, all required high-frequency components have been combined in one chip.

This high level of integration enables particularly compact, but also 70% more cost-effective and twice as powerful radar-based assistance systems. With the RXS81xx, all application areas of 77-79 GHz radars can be served equally: In addition to the common "front radar" with a long range of over 300 m, compact "corner radars" can be set up at the four corners of the vehicle for improved side visibility, as can a rear-looking radar.

By connecting several RXS81xx together to form a network, high-resolution radar with better discrimination of objects - such as a person between two vehicles - is also possible. The RXS81xx allows all these applications to be implemented with just one radar chip in different configurations, so that up to ten radar chips can be installed per vehicle.
