インフィニオンが業界最高集積度の無線LAN内蔵ネットワークプロセッサを発表

通信ICの先導サプライヤである独インフィニオンテクノロジーズは本日、セキュアなデュアルバンド無線LAN（IEEE802.11a/g）を内蔵した、業 界で最も高集積度なネットワークプロセッサのシステム・オン・チップ（SoC）ソリューション「WildPass」を発表しました。「WildPass」は、USB2.0やIDE（Integrated Drive Electronics）を含む多様なインターフェイスを搭載し、VoIPアクセスポイント、VoIPルータ、ゲートウェイ、メディアサーバ、プリントサーバなど、多 様なネットワークアプリケーションにシームレスに組み込むことが可能です。このソリューションは、LAN/WAN双方向に対して、パケットサイズによらないワイヤースピードでのパケット転送を行なうことで、音声、 映像、データのトリプルプレイの提供を実現します。「WildPass」に内蔵された無線LANトランシーバは、デュアルバンド機能（IEEE802.11a/g）とWPA2セキュリティ機能（ IEEE802.11i）を備え、市販の各種無線LAN製品とセキュアに通信することを可能にします。「WildPass」によってシステムメーカーは部品コストの低減、システムの単純化、設 計サイクルの短縮を達成し、トリプルプレイ対応無線LANアクセス機器の需要増大に効率的に応えることができます。

アクトン社傘下の先導的な加入者宅内装置（CPE）サプライヤであるアスター・テクノロジー社（台湾）は、インフィニオンの「WildPass」を同社のネットワーク接続ストレージ（NAS）フ ァミリ「Picasso」に採用しました。「Picasso」は、「WildPass」のIDEインターフェイスを内蔵ハードディスク接続に、U SB2.0ホストインターフェイスを外付けハードディスク接続に使用しています。このシンプルな「プラグ・アンド・プレイ」セットアップによってエンドユーザーは「Picasso」を 自分の宅内ネットワークへ追加することで、重要データのバックアップ機能やマルチメディアファイル（映画、MP3、ゲームなど）共有のための中央ストレージ機能を容易に実現できます。

アスターのCEOであるジョン・リン氏は、「インフィニオンのWildPassを評価していた時、このような経済的なコストで多様な機能や高い性能が提供されることに特に感銘を受けました。高 集積度で機能に富んだWildPassは、当社がNASおよびメディアサーバーの容量のアップグレードに長期的に対応し、同時に、適切な性能対価格比を達成することを可能にするでしょう」と、述べました。

インフィニオンテクノロジーズのダニエル・ウォン（CPE事業部バイスプレジデント兼ゼネラルマネージャ）は、「トリプルプレイサービスの成長には、高速のインターネットアクセスだけでなく、大 きなデータファイルをローカルネットワークに保存する機能も必要です。無線ゲートウェイソリューションは、家庭やSOHOにおいて音声、映像、デ ータをワイヤレス伝送するための最も総合的なアプローチを提供します。当社は継続してWildPasｓのようなネットワーク処理用SoCの分野に注力してゆきます。WildPassは、多 様なネットワークアプリケーションに対応することによってこの成長市場の要求に応える高集積度で柔軟なSoCソリューションです」と、述べました。

市場調査会社ガートナーによれば、低コストIEEE802.11ゲートウェイおよびアクセスポイントの供給によってIEEE802.11a/gの導入が加速され、そ の出荷数は2004年の6300万ユニットから2007年には2億900万ユニットに増加すると予測されています。

最大限の設計柔軟性を提供する「WildPass」ソリューション
「WildPass」はさらに、ソフトボコーダーを利用したVoIP-CPEのためのPCMおよびSPIインタフェース、ブロードバンドアップリンク（DSLモデム、光モデム、ケ ーブルモデムなど）接続用のMMI、外部メモリデバイス接続（SDRAMおよびFlash）インタフェースなども提供します。内蔵のハードウェアNAT（Network Address Translation） エンジンによって、ネットワーク上の多数のPCやインターネット対応機器（ビデオ・オン・デマンド用メディアサーバ、ゲームコンソール、パーソナル・メディア・ゲートウェイなど）が、L AN/WAN双方向で、パ ケットサイズに関係なくワイヤースピードで通信することを可能としています。「WildPass」はインフィニオンのCPE用ICポートフォリオをさらに強化し、A DSL2+デバイス「 Amazon」、V DSL2チップセット「VINAX-CPE」、レイヤ2スイッチ「Samurai」、VoIPプロセッサ「VINETIC」など、イ ンフィニオンの他の製品との組み合わせによって多様なエンド・ツー・エ ンドソリューションを実現します。
「WildPass」は、BGA289パッケージとBGA324パッケージの製品があります。サンプル供給開始は2005年6月、量産開始は2005年7月の予定です。

「WildPass」は、Broadband World Forum Asia 2005（会場：パシフィコ横浜、展示会期：5月31日～6月1日）、Computex 2005（台湾の台北、5 月31日～6月4日）、SuperComm 2005 （米国シカゴ、6月6～9日）に出展されます。
