High power density and efficiency design with advanced flyback controllers
Flyback converter is one of the most popular, mature and low-cost converter typically deployed by most designers. To meet an increasing demand of higher efficiency and/or smaller power supplies, this has led to the development by Infineon to offer a series of advanced flyback controllers to address such challenges.
To combat against an increase in switching losses due to an increase in switching frequency to miniaturize the power supply, Infineon’s advanced flyback controllers offer ZVS (zero voltage switching). By inducing a negative current to discharge the main high voltage MOSFET, switching losses can be reduced further, compared to traditional valley switching type of switching schemes.
Advanced flyback controllers have also incorporated multi-mode operation to optimize efficiency across different line and load conditions while keeping the simplicity of a flyback converter.
