Biometric Payment
Biometric authentication is becoming more prevalent in our daily lives. Here at Infineon, we are actively bringing Secure Elements and biometric technologies to one platform to offer fast, convenient, and trusted payments at consumers’ fingertips. Contactless payment cards with biometric identification pave the way for even more convenient, trusted user experiences. Cardholders verify their identity simply by placing a finger on the card’s sensor and tapping the card at the terminal.
SECORA™ Pay Bio is Infineon’s all-in-one biometric payment card solution. It enables the cardholder’s biometric credentials to be recorded, processed, matched and stored on a single Secure Element combined with a fingerprint sensor. SECORA™ Pay Bio is designed as a turnkey solution, offering pre-certified Mastercard® and Visa® applets for cost-efficient, scalable production based on state-of-the-art card manufacturing equipment.
SECORA™ Pay Bio is an innovative concept, combining a system-on-chip Secure Element with best-in-class contactless performance and advanced fingerprint sensor technology to bring even more trust to touchless payments.
To support seamless project implementation, SECORA™ Pay Bio offers various enrollment options:
- This option supports in-field enrollment, also referred to as PoS enrollment, where cardholders transparently enroll the card themselves. They do this when they start using the card to make payments by placing a finger on the card sensor during contactless communication. The PoS terminal may ask the user to also enter the PIN. This enrollment procedure is predefined by the system for a certain number of initial transactions under certain conditions.
- The second option is smartphone enrollment. Here the system supplier could get a reference code to generate their own smartphone app (iOS and Android), that is then used by the cardholder to enroll their fingerprint on their smart card.
- The third option is based on a sleeve. With this option, the system supplier could get a reference design to produce a sleeve device. The cardholder would then use this contact-based sleeve enrollment device to enroll their fingerprint on the card.
SECORA™ Pay Bio is an innovative concept with advanced capabilities that will bring more trust to touchless payments. It is a pre-certified biometric turnkey payment card solution for Mastercard® and VISA®. Extending our well-established SECORA™ Pay turnkey solution family, it addresses the fast-growing biometric smart card and dual-interface segment. This all-in-one solution integrates the SLC39B Secure Element leveraging 40 nm technology and a biometric sensor into the Infineon biometric Coil on Module (BCoM) packaging based on inductive coupling technology. Inductive coupling eliminates the need for a wire connection between the card antenna and the module. This significantly improves the robustness and long-term reliability of biometric payment cards. For ease of card production, SECORA™ Pay Bio only requires minor adaptations to existing production equipment.
