The light-triggered thyristors (LTTs) are very compact in size and especially fast in reaction. Hence without high-power thyristors, high-voltage DC couplers would not be a reality today, when two grids can not be coupled by AC links.

Thyristors and diodes are also widely used in industry applications such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), solid state relays (SSR), energy storage, and battery chargers where high blocking voltage and high surge current handling capabilities are required.

For applications such as battery charging and UPS static bypass switches, besides the high surge current capability and long-term reliability, large inrush current capabilities are required. Infineon´s thyristors and diodes are known to fulfill all these requirements.
