3D Magnetic Hall Effect Sensor
Small 6-pin package, low power consumption, standard 2-wire digital I²C interface
The new XENSIVTM 3D magnetic sensor (TLI493D-W2BW) combines high-accuracy magnetic field measurements with an extremely compact footprint and exceptionally low power consumption (min. 7 nA). This sensor opens up a host of exciting new use cases including innovative human-machine interfaces in the form of industrial and consumer joysticks, ergonomic pushbuttons on domestic appliancess, as well as highly precise position control in robotics. To complete our offering a Shield2Go, TLI493D-W2BW Shield2Go is available.
Infineon´s XENSIVTM innovative 3D hall sensor family TLx493D enables contactless position sensing for three-dimensional magnetic movements. Our 3D sensor is a hall-based sensor which detects the strength of a magnetic field in all three dimensions, i.e. x-, y- and z-axis. In addition the sensor is widely used to sense linear magnetic as well as angular movements. The last feature set is related to functional safety in automotive applications. Infineon’s TLE493D-W2B6 is able to support functional safety in high-safety applications. This comes along with additionally offering the respective safety documentations for the 3D magnetic sensor.
Our 3D Hall sensor family is available in 3 different qualification levels targeting automotive, industrial and consumer markets:
- TLV493D-A1B6: The TLV version is Infineon’s consumer derivative (JESD47 Qualified)
- TLI493D-A2B6 / TLI493D-W2B6: The TLI version is Infineon’s industrial derivative (JESD47 Qualified)
- TLE493D-A2B6/ TLE493D-W2B6: The TLE version is Infineon’s automotive derivative (AEC-Q100 Qualified)
The feature set of all variants comprises a small 6-pin package, low power consumption (ultra-low power mode) as well as a standard 2-wire digital I²C interface. The TLx493D family can be used in applications, replacing potentiometer and optical solutions. The sensor family is offering high temperature stability of the magnetic threshold leading to smaller, more accurate and more robust system designs.
All in all, there is one remarkable feature set of TLE493D-W2B6 (A0-A3) which is highlighted here: This AEC-Q100 Qualified version of Infineon’s 3D Hall family is offering a specific wake-up functionality contributing to overall system power savings, especially for battery driven applications. In addition the TLE493D-W2B6/TLI493D-W2BW is available in 4 different variants ending with A0, A1, A2 or A3. The underlying feature is the so called Bus mode configuration of this device. It’s possible to connect up to 4 sensors to one I²C bus. The specific addressing is then done via 4 different variants.

Infineon’s 3D magnetic sensors are the perfect fit for control elements, joysticks and E-meters (anti-tampering), furthermore it can be use in smart home and industrial control applications. Additionally, it is fitting in low-power 3D magnetic automotive applications such as indicators and gear shifters.
Offering our customers an easy entry into the portfolio of our 3D magnetic sensors, Infineon is providing plenty of tools and support materials. One of them is the smallest, fully featured 3D magnetic sensor 2GO evaluation kits on the market. These kits are available with different add on components like joystick adapters, rotation knobs, linear sliders and out-of-shaft angle adapters. All add-ons come with pre-mounted magnets making them, in combination with dedicated GUIs and our 2GO kits, ready-to-use plug-and-play evaluation tools.
Since the behavior and characteristic of the 3D magnetic sensor are mainly based on the magnet layout and design, Infineon is additionally offering its customers the opportunity of a magnet simulation tool for calculating the magnetic field components based on the sensor arrangement. Customers can easily choose between pre-defined or customer specific magnets. Moreover, the last support material concerns the selection of the magnet – a dedicated magnet recommendation list provides the customer with detailed information on dedicated magnets and where-to-buy them.
