4G/5G LNAs
Low noise amplifier MMICs for mobile cellular systems: 4G and 5G
Infineon LTE LNA (4G) and 5G LNA MMICs (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) are designed to optimize the sensitivity of mobile cellular systems. This allows the highest data traffic area, as well as distance from the next base station to be extended while enabling the highest network efficiency by reducing transmission power and lowering bit error rates. The MMICs contain gain-switching, biasing, and matching circuitry, and thus allow an easy implementation into the RF design.
There are a wide variety of solutions from single to quad low noise amplifiers (LNAs) in very small standard IC packages optimized for the standard cellular frequency bands that address individual customer needs, including high linearity LNAs with bypass enable 4x4 MIMO (Multiple-Input/Multiple-Output) reception with high power transmit signals.
Infineon 4G/5G LNAs are used in many reference designs of chipset vendors but can also be found in customized solutions to compensate losses from the antenna to the transceiver in complex multi-band front-end implementations or long signal lines from distributed antennas - or to improve overall system performance.

Low noise amplifiers are extremely important when it comes to communication systems and future technologies. By adding an LNA to the antenna, the signal can be boosted without adding additional unwanted noise or distortion to the system. There can be different types of LNAs suitable depending on the application, such as gain step LNAs, high linearity LNAs, and high gain LNAs. Using LTE LNAs or 5G LNAs provide many benefits:
- Ultra-low noise figure (NF), high linearity and low current consumption that enhances the signal receiving sensitivity and improves data transfer rate
- Have pin-to-pin compatible products that can easily be implemented in new project based on the same PCB design
- Smallest package in the industry, increased system integration and reduced power consumption.
LNAs are very important when it comes to 4G and 5G applications because a lower noise figure (NF) results in a better signal reception. Infineon’s range of 4G/5G LNAs with low noise figure fit in all applications.
LTE LNAs and 5G LNAs with high linearity are a great addition to smartphones and other applications with a moderate amount of signal interferers. These LNAs guarantee that the signal maintains its quality no matter the circumstances.
Low power LNAs for LTE and 5G bring a very important feature for applications where power saving is a main requirement. All wearable applications benefit greatly from low power LNAs mainly due to their dependence on battery life.
