Responding to the increased demand for photovoltaic energy using string and hybrid inverters

Energy security has become much discussed topic with governments scrambling to formulate plans for renewable energy deployment. Power generation is moving away from pure demand-side management to self-generated alternatives. This reflects in the change of the market trends. For example, market for rooftop solar installations is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Here, PV inverter manufacturers are trying to increase their market share by offering products with higher power densities and efficiency while reducing product, manufacturing and installation costs.

The most significant development in inverter design is related to Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices. They are exceptionally robust and capable of higher switching frequency than silicon IGBTs and MOSFETs.
