Industrial security

Description

This demo shows how sensitive data can be communicated through secured channels from one production site to another using OPTIGA™ TPM. Furthermore the network components in the demo are monitored and unauthorized manipulations detected.

Challenge

Smart Factories are built on complex networks through which more and more sensitive data is transmitted. To protect this data and enable the uninterrupted operation of the production process, factory networks need to be secured. One of the key aspects is security for network equipment which is often the central communication hub of any smart factory.

Infineon Solution

OPTIGA™ TPM is a standardized, feature-rich security solution which protects the integrity and authenticity of devices and systems in embedded industrial networks. It builds on proven technologies and supports the latest TPM 2.0 standard.

Applications

› Secured authentication

› Secured communication

› Platform integrity checks

Description

In this video you will learn more about how a PLC-based system can be adequately equipped in order to execute different security use cases.

Challenge

Industrial automation systems are the central backbone of any factory. With increasingly connected factories automation components become open to attacks and the system more vulnerable. To protect automation systems against counterfeit devices and allow remote updates in a secured way, security measures are needed.

Infineon Solution

The solution shown, relies on the OPTIGA™ Trust family of authentication solutions. It protects programming processes from manipulation through malware and incorrect software updates. The combination of security chips protects valuable intellectual property and process know-how by securing and encrypting customer data and preventing the PLC code from being extracted.

Applications

› Brand protection

› Secured FW updates

› Platform integrity

› Secured programming

› IP protection

Description

In this video you will learn about a typical Industry 4.0 architecture enabled by Infineon components including secured end nodes.

Challenge

Industrial automation systems are the basis of any factory. With connectivity reaching from the control system and HMI down to the end nodes, integrating security throughout the system is essential. One of the key challenges is to check that only genuine components can access the network.

Infineon Solution

The solution shown relies on the OPTIGA™ Trust family of authentication solutions. The end nodes are each equipped with an OPTIGA™ Trust E security controller to enable secured authentication towards the industrial control system based on the XMC 4800. The combination of security chips with general purpose microcontrollers enables the protection of IoT networks throughout the entire system.

Applications

  • Brand protection
  • Anti counterfeiting
  • Secured network access

Description

This demo shows the complete portfolio of Infineon’s semiconductor solutions coming together for a 3D Printer application. Along with power components and our XMC4500 Microcontroller for motor control the demo also includes two security applications. To protect the printer from fake material and enable high-quality prints, the OPTIGA™ Trust E is used to check the authenticity of the filament roll. Furthermore the 3D prints can be supervised remotely in a secured way with the OPTIGA™ TPM which is integrated in the Raspberry Pi with a camera.

Challenge

Intelligent Smart Machines are used to produce prototypes or manufacturer for different companies. To protect the confidential designs and IP which is transmitted in the printing process, smart machines need to be secured. Furthermore the material used in the production process needs to be of continuous high quality.  To protect the production process from interruptions and confidential IP from espionage as well as to keep up the quality of the manufactured material, security measures are needed.

Infineon Solution

OPTIGA™ TPM is a standardized, feature-rich security solution which protects the integrity and authenticity of devices and systems in embedded industrial networks. It builds on proven technologies and supports the latest TPM 2.0 standard. It is used to securely observe the manufacturing process and can help to secure confidential data. Furthermore the OPTIGA™ Trust E, a strong security and easy-to-use turnkey authentication solution is used to prevent counterfeit material in the manufacturing process.

Applications

› Secured authentication

› Secured communication

› Platform integrity checks
