IVEX mission is to make (semi-) autonomous vehicles safe. Their software technology enables advanced deterministic validation and monitoring of safety boundary for complex autonomous systems. The IVEX embedded Safety Co-Pilot constantly evaluates the safety of the planned trajectory and gives constraints to planning & decision-making controller to guarantee safety according to IVEX driving model.

Project details

The Proof-of-Concept project focused on solving one of the key challenges for the main compute system in an autonomous vehicle - predicting safe or unsafe driving scenarios. Often, there are way too many scenarios to be characterized or solved with simple rule-based approach. And standard AI techniques are difficult to prove “safe” due to complexity and lack of determinism.


In the project, we demonstrated the viability and effectiveness of executing IVEX’s trajectory checker algorithms (Safety Co-pilot) in AURIX™ MCUs to offer enhanced safety functions.

One of the key challenges for the main compute system in an autonomous vehicle is how to confirm if a certain scenario or planned trajectory is safe or unsafe.

Developed demonstration system comprising of IVEX Safety Co-pilot software running on off-the-shelf AURIX™ MCU hardware board to gather initial feedback from the market.

Single AURIX™ MCU was able execute over 5,000 rules to check 10 trajectories (5 seconds in length each) with 5 obstacles in 35 milliseconds.
