FPGAs and FPAAs allow today to realize prototypes in a very fast and efficient manner. For sensor applications modern FPAAs have everything on chip like ADCs/DACs, a core, digital interfaces and so on to realize smart sensor prototypes and products. In doing so the structure of the hardware and firmware for a sensor application follows quite similar structures. Sensor structures need control via GPIOs, PWMs, DACs or similar, analogue voltage and current values need continuously conversion via ADCs, values must be handled, converted, combined by FSMs, calculations are made and finally the results must be present at the digital interface. The task is to build code generators, “code templates” and building blocks using a dedicated environmental sensor application for proof of concept. The target of this thesis is to simplify the implementation of any kind of sensor application. As an outcome “template code” with building blocks and general structures for implementation of any kind of sensor application shall be documented and the implementation effort for individual application parts shall be absolutely minimized. Job description

In your new role you will:
  • Build code generators, “code templates” and building blocks using a dedicated environmental sensor application for proof of concept. Including sub-tasks:
    • Code generator for register layout/handling at digital interface;
    • Code generator or template for AFE firmware sequencer;
    • Template and cookbook for AFE design;
    • Code integration of FSMs, formulas and control structures.
  • Simplify the implementation of any kind of sensor application.
  • As outcome the “template code” with building blocks and general structures for implementation of any kind of sensor application shall be well documented and the implementation effort for individual application parts shall be absolutely minimized.

Profile

You’re best equipped for this job if you:
  • Are studying electrical engineering, microelectronics, nanotechnology, microsystems engineering or a similar technical subject;
  • Are experienced in C-programming;
  • Show basic knowledge of analogue and digital building blocks (e. g. ADC, DAC, OpAmp, logic, interfaces);
  • Are fluently speaking English.
