We are offering a doctoral research project dealing with Design and Test Optimization of our most advanced Automotive Microcontrollers. This research will be jointly advised by dedicated Infineon experts and a professor of Technical University of Munich. The performance of a SoC (System on a Chip) - which is defined as the maximum achievable clock frequency under worst case conditions - is a parameter with a huge device-to-device variation that is hard to measure during production test. Therefore on-chip monitor structures are added to such a system which provide an indirect view of performance. The accuracy of these monitors and their correlation to functional performance strongly depends on their structure, their placement and their quantity. The goal of the doctoral research is to establish a novel monitor concept. It shall improve performance prediction accuracy for the next generation of Infineon’s microcontroller products and will be conducted within the scope of a commercial project. All stages from concept to implementation and from analysis of measurement data using statistical and machine learning techniques to production test fine tuning will be covered.

Job description

The topics within the research will consist of:
  • Physical Design, Place&Route
  • Scan Insertion 
  • Automatic Test Pattern generation
  • Static Timing Analysis, Timing Signoff
The learnings out of the thesis will lead to:
  • a deep understanding for the relation between the timing sign-off (pre-silicon) and production test conditions (post silicon)
  • a holistic view of DFT (Design for Test) concepts throughout the entire product cycle

Profile

As the ideal candidate you:
  • have a degree in electrical engineering or a related field 
  • are familiar with digital circuit design
  • know the concept of automatic test pattern generation
  • have good communication skills that help you to interact with multiple teams within the design and the test community
Know-how in following topics is preferable - but not mandatory:
  • A background in Mathematics and Statistics, basic knowledge of Machine Learning
  • Scripting in Python or PERL
  • Performing VHDL & Gate Level Simulation
  • Working with Place & Route tools, scan insertion
