Advanced automotive 12 V DC motor controller solutions
Whatever you touch in a car, there is an electric motor close by. Brushed DC motors are easy to control and often serve as actuators with an overall short operating time. Torque control down to zero speed is easy to achieve. Brushless DC (BLDC) motors have less wear but need a complex control algorithm and, therefore, higher computing power than for a DC-brush motor drive. BLDC motors are most suitable for applications demanding long-term continuous operation time like fuel pumps.
Infineon is your one-stop shop for automotive motor control solutions, offering the industry's broadest portfolio of motor control ICs: Our MOTIX™ motor control IC portfolio comprises a range of solutions with varying levels of integration, from driver ICs to highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. Every level has its own characteristic set of benefits.
Our scalable MOTIX™ product range is complemented by OptiMOS™ MOSFETs, OPTIREG™ power supply ICs, transceivers, microcontrollers (AURIX™, TRAVEO™, PSOC™) and XENSIV™ sensors.

Outstanding low quiescent current, advanced protection, and diagnostic features make the product family an optimal solution for automotive applications like seat and power liftgate control and various use cases in body control modules (BCM), such as centralized door lock or washer pumps.
Three-phase gate driver ICs:
The MOTIX™ gate driver ICs for BLDC motors portfolio comprises of automotive AEC-Q100 qualified 3-phase gate driver ICs for 12 to 48 V applications. It offers a range of options, including variants with and without integrated current sense amplifiers, and meets different safety and reliability requirements, from QM to fully ISO 26262-compliant devices, ensuring a high level of functional safety in automotive applications.
Achieve cost and energy efficiency in auxiliary motor control
Single half-bridge ICs:
MOTIX™ single half-bridge ICs offer integrated high-current motor drivers with PWM capability, overcurrent protection, adjustable slew rates, and logic-level input. They can form an H-bridge or three-phase bridge with an additional MOTIX™ single half-bridge IC and provide overtemperature shutdown and current sense capability.
Multi half-bridge ICs:
MOTIX™ multi half-bridge ICs are protected half-bridge drivers designed for automotive applications like small DC motors for flaps in HVAC and mirror adjustment. They handle up to 0.9 A per output, diagnose issues, and support 3 to 12 half-bridges with PWM. MOTIX™ TLE9166EQ (motor-control-ics/brushed-dc-motor-control-ics/multi-half-bridge-ics/tle9166eq/)for door control offers a versatile solution for door control modules and is suited for door locks, safe locks, mirror fold and adjustment, mirror heating, electrochromic mirrors, incandescent bulbs, and LEDs.
Full-bridge ICs
MOTIX™ BTM90xx full-bride ICs are ISO 26262-ready and represent a cost-optimized product family of four variants that can be selected based on various application targets. They scale from current limit of minimum 10 A – 20 A. Typical application examples are door modules (i.e. door lock, e-charging lid) or the body and zone control modules.

DC and BLDC motors: Exploring their role in automotive motor control
MOTIX™ motor system ICs (SBC)
Infineon’s motor system ICs family is the world’s first IC to combine DC and BLDC motor control with functionalities such as power supply, CAN FD, and LIN. All devices of the MOTIX™ motor system ICs family feature a low-dropout voltage regulator with an output current of 250 mA/5 V, and they are available in a VQFN-48 (7 x 7 mm) packages.
Target applications involve Automotive DC motor control, for example seat control modules, power lift gate, sunroof module, seatbelt pretensioner as well as BLDC motor control such as fuel and water pumps, fans and transfer case.
Target applications:
- Automotive DC motor control (e.g., seat control modules, power lift gate, sunroof module, seatbelt pretensioner)
- BLDC motor control (e.g., fuel and water pumps, fans and transfer case)
System benefits:
- PCB savings up to 50 percent due to a unique integration approach
- Lower switching losses and EMC optimization due to adaptive MOSFET control
- Automatic regulation of MOSFET pre-charge currents diminishes the need for production MOSFET calibration
- VS monitoring in sleep mode activates the MOSFET to prevent from ECU damage when the motor is in generator mode
