IR's IR3550 PowIRstage® Named a 2011 Product of the Year by Electronic Products Magazine
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology today announced its IR3550 power stage device was named a 2011 Product of the Year by Electronic Products Magazine.
The IR3550 is part of a family of integrated PowIRstage® products from IR that delivers higher efficiency and better thermal performance than competing solutions along with smallest footprint while simplifying the DC-DC converter design for next-generation high performance servers, storage and communication systems.
The editors of Electronic Products—a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers— evaluated thousands of products launched in 2011. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance.
Adam White, IR's Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales said: "We are delighted to receive this prestigious award from the editors of Electronic Products magazine for our IR3550 integrated PowIRstage® device which offers a scalable, high density solution with exceptional performance for next-generation multi-phase power systems."
The IR3550 integrates a high-performance synchronous buck gate driver, IR's latest generation control and synchronous MOSFETs featuring extremely low on-state resistance (RDS(on)) and gate charge, and a Schottky diode into a high density, low profile 6mm x 6mm x 0.9mm PQFN package. The IR3550 offers superior performance compared to alternative power stage solutions, by achieving up to a 3 percent improvement in electrical efficiency to help reduce overall power losses and heat generation in the system, thereby reducing dependency on complex thermal management techniques and associated costs as well as improving reliability.
