Infineon Introduces Leading Edge Fiber Optics Solutions at ECOC 2003
Munich and Rimini/Italy September 23, 2003 Infineon is displaying its extensive portfolio of fiber optics products and offerings at the ECOC 2003 trade show in Rimini, Italy, September 22 - 24. The company exhibits and demonstrates in its booth (Hall A5, Booth 464/465) its leading solutions for high-speed data- and telecommunications and in-vehicle network communications. The product introductions and demonstrations include:
The announcements are summarized in this News Alert. For further information, please refer to the Web URLs, or the Media Relations contacts listed in this News Alert.
Infineon is the first company to demonstrate a 1310nm VCSEL-based 4Gigabit Fibre Channel transceiver (4GFC) in an intelligent small form factor pluggable (iSFP) module with digital diagnostics. The 4GFC modules can use either one of Infineons low cost VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) diodes, 850nm or 1310nm, and can be used in both Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications. The innovative 4GFC iSFP transceiver solution supports the full range of Fibre Channel products compliant to the 1x, 2x and 4x FC-PI standard and ensures backward compatibility with existing Fibre-Channel-based equipment. Thus providing system designers with an easy migration path to next generation standards for Storage Area Network (SAN) applications. www.infineon.com
Infineon performs, at its ECOC booth, a live demonstration of its powerful 10Gigabit XPAK MSA product series. The product family consists of a range of 10Gbps optical transceiver modules compliant with 10 Gigabit Ethernet as well as 10Gigabit Fibre Channel standards, supporting links at a rate of 10.3Gbps for 10GE and 10.5Gbps for 10GFC. The hot-swappable optical modules are compliant with XPAK MSA and IEEE 802.3ae. The XPAK 850nm VCSEL-based transceiver supports short reaches up to 300m over multimode fiber and the 1310nm DFB laser based module supports long reaches up to 10km over single fiber. This XPAK modules are offered with SC and LC optical receptacles to prove flexibility for customers. To see more detail on Infineons 10Gbps XPAK products, please visit www.infineon.com/XPAK
Infineon is currently the major vendor and technology leader in the market with high-end transceivers for the MOST® (Media Oriented Systems Transport) multimedia fiber-optic network, optimized for automotive applications. This network design provides a low-overhead and low-cost interface for such devices as microphones and speakers. MOST is established as the de-facto high-speed networking standard used in over 20 different car models worldwide.
Infineon offers high reliable, cost effective receiver and transmitter for MOST applications with up to 50Mbit/s. All devices operate at 5V. The transmitter has integrated a 650nm LED for PMMA POF-fiber, LED peaking and a TTL data output for the logic to light interface. The receiver is based on a photodiode with pre- and post amplifier. Both devices come in a CAI package for easy coupling with POF (Plastical Optical Fibres). MOST is in series production at e.g. Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Porsche, Saab and Volvo. www.infineon.com
