These announcements are summarized in this News Alert:
The new Analog Telephony Adapter (ATA) design solution combines the INCA-IP and VINETIC products from Infineon Technologies to bring traditional telephone handsets to the digital world. The ATA solution is a handset-to-Ethernet adaptor that interfaces regular analog telephones with next generation IP-based telephony networks. The Infineon reference design combines two proven chip-level technologies to produce a fully integrated Voice over IP (VoIP) system. The INCA-IP is a single chip solution for implementing VoIP terminals. With a powerful on-board processor, voice processing features and network connectivity, INCA-IP provides high-quality digital audio performance with three-way conferencing and hands free functionality. The interface of the INCA-IP to traditional analog phones is handled by the VINETIC family of analog voice IC's, which facilitate the connection of standard RJ11 POTS interfaces to the IP voice network.
The Korea-based broadband access provider Corecess Inc. will introduce its Corecess 5200S family of Ethernet Access switches, based on Infineon's Purple (PLB2800) Ethernet Switch-on-Chip. The configurable Purple features an embedded CPU, and packet memory. It provides twice the port density of existing Ethernet switches, supporting up to 48 Fast Ethernet plus 2 GbE uplinks.
Designed for Multi Tenant/Multi Dweller Units (MTU/MDU) and hospitality locations, the Purple based Corecess 5200S series is a LAN access switch with rich functionalities. Easy migration into the operator's high speed network is provided via the system's two copper or optical fiber GbE interfaces. On the user side the solution features standard 10/100BaseT Ethernet interfaces available on most desktop or portable computers, eliminating the need for a special CPE modem.
With Purple Infineon offers a fully loaded Ethernet access platform which includes a highly integrated switch-on-chip, software drivers and reference design kits. Purple supports advanced security features including VLAN, stacked VLAN, Authentication and Intrusion detection protocols in addition to protocol filtering such as NetBios.
Infineon and Vitesse are collaborating to provide system designers with a complete end-to-end solution of critical silicon content for SONET/SDH systems. Interoperability between Infineons SONET/SDH framer integrated circuits (ICs) and the Vitesse Time Slot Interchange ICs (TSIs) includes products from each companys portfolio for 160 Gbps (gigabit-per-second), 320 Gbps and 640 Gbps SONET/SDH systems, as well as system-level reference designs that are useful for rapid development and deployment of next-generation systems. The first result from this collaboration is the demonstrated interoperability between the Infineon Tethys SONET/SDH Multi-Rate Framer IC and the Vitesse VSC9185 TSI. Achieving interoperability with the VSC9185 is important from an industry perspective because it is part of the Vitesse TSI product family that, according to industry analysts, has captured 30 percent of its market, making it one of the most widely used TSI product lines in the industry.
The Triport-BIDI® optical module allows two-way digital communication over a single optical fiber and features an additional receiver for RF video signals carrying analog and digital TV channels. This optical triplexer module enables simultaneous transmission of high-speed internet, telephony and analog and/or switched digital TV over one single fiber-optic link.Up to now, households have usually been supplied with these services via two separate networks with copper cables used for making phone calls and browsing the Internet and a separate coaxial cable bringing analog TV to the home. At ITU Telecom World 2003 in Geneva Infineon shows Optical Solutions' FiberPath 500 system which is a leading Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) solution based on the Triport BIDI. FiberPath 500 meets the broadband needs of entire communities by delivering triple play voice, data, and analog or switched digital video services over a single, converged access network and serves both residences and businesses using standards-based Full Service Access Network (FSAN) and Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology, which combines ATM quality and Gigabit Ethernet speed.
Infineon Technologies AG, Munich, Germany, offers semiconductor and system solutions for the automotive and industrial sectors, for applications in the wired communications markets, secure mobile solutions as well as memory products. With a global presence, Infineon operates in the US from San Jose, CA, in the Asia-Pacific region from Singapore and in Japan from Tokyo. In fiscal year 2002 (ending September), the company achieved sales of Euro 5.21 billion with about 30,400 employees worldwide. Infineon is listed on the DAX index of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker symbol: IFX). Further information is available at www.infineon.com.
