DWD Introduces Customizable E-GSM/E-GPRS System Solution Platform in a True Compact Flash Type II Compliant Format

Feb 19, 2002 | Market News

Cannes, February 19, 2002 – Danish Wireless Design (DWD), a 100 percent subsidiary of Infineon Technologies today introduced a highly optimized and customizable E-GSM/E-GPRS system solution platform in a true Compact Flash type II form factor. Compact Flash is the standard for add-on cards primarily used for PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) placing stringent requirements on space and power consumption. The integrated intelligent power management removes the need for an external power supply and provides interfaces to both 3.3 and 5V hosts. The DWD Compact Flash platform conforms to the latest CF+ standard and permits the implementation of E-GSM/E-GPRS enabled PDA based products.

DWD integrated the complete functionality of the CF interface, CF+ power management, SIM card and a fully shielded E-GSM/E-GPRS modem in a compact module only 42.8 mm x 52 mm x 4.9 mm in size. This compact design utilizes the latest E-GSM/E-GPRS protocol stack from Comneon and the latest E-GSM/E-GPRS chip technology from Infineon Technologies. Key components used are the powerful baseband chip E-Gold +V3, a recently announced member of the popular E-Gold family and the advanced SmartiDC direct conversion RF solution. Without compromising the CF form factor, this platform further allows implementation of optional functionality like Bluetooth or GPS. With only few industrial design considerations, adopters of this platform will be able to provide a finished customized product for the expanding wireless handheld device market in record time.

“DWD has enabled numerous international customers including leading handset manufacturers to rapidly introduce a number of high performance, high volume and very cost-effective E-GSM/E-GPRS system solutions,” said Per Hartmann Christensen, CEO of DWD. “Customers get the benefit of significantly reduced time-to-market using our system solution platforms and services for E-GSM/E-GPRS handsets and data modules, achieving volume production in record time.”

Through the unique offering of a complete platform for wireless system solutions, DWD is reducing considerably the design risk and time-to-market for wireless mobile device suppliers faced with a very diverse market. The DWD system solution is completed by a professional training program and extensive design documentation, easy to use development and verification tools for both hardware and software, product specific drivers in source code, project management and dedicated customer support.
