Infineon and Konka Announce Successful Launch of the K5238 Dual-Band GSM Mobile Communication Products for the Chinese Market
Shenzhen, China, and Singapore, June 7, 2002 Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX), one of the worlds leading providers of communications integrated circuits (ICs), and Konka Telecommunications Technology Co. Ltd, subsidiary of Konka Group which is China's 2nd largest TV producer and the leading cell phone maker, announced the successful launch of the K5238, a fully-featured Dual Band GSM/GPRS product for the burgeoning China market.
The K5238 is the first of a series of mobile phones from Konka and Infineon, which will be developed based on the latest system solution for dual band GSM cellular phones from Infineon. The solution boasts one of the lowest component count at fewer than 200 for a complete phone. The K5238 was jointly developed by Konka Telecommunications and Infineon's subsidiaries Danish Wireless Design (DWD) and Comneon. It includes Comneons GSM protocol software and features Infineon's highly integrated chip solutions: the EGOLD+ single-chip baseband controller, SMARTi single-chip RF transceiver, and the E-POWER power management integrated circuit.
The successful launch paved the way for future cooperation between Infineon and Konka Telecommunications in the development of GPRS products and services for the Chinese market. Besides providing development and technical support, Infineon will provide Konka with platform upgrades and new reference designs that will enable Konka Telecommunications to develop products that are both feature rich and cost competitive for faster time-to-market.
Infineon has one of the best integrated chipset solutions in the industry. Their expertise will enable the mobile communication products that Konka develops to be highly integrated, miniaturised and feature-rich. This will translate to more competitive and sleeker Dual Band GSM/GPRS offerings from Konka, said Mr Huang Wei-gang, General manager of Konka Telecommunications and Vice President of Konka Group.
We are very pleased to co-operate with Konka. Having an industry leader such as Konka incorporate our high performance wireless technology into its product portfolio provides further proof of our position as a leading provider of powerful semiconductor and complete system solutions for mobile applications, said Ulrich Hamann, CEO of Wireless Solutions at Infineon Technologies.
