Dec 11, 2002 | Market News

Munich, Germany – December 11, 2002 – Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of integrated circuits for advanced communications systems, today announced that Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN) has selected its Geminax chipset for high-performance ADSL line cards to be used in the Siemens XpressLink DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) system.

Broadband access system vendors use the Geminax chipset to implement the complete transceiver solution for data only and integrated voice/data ADSL line cards. Exceptional flexibility combined with leading edge data rate and loop reach performance makes the chipset an ideal solution for high volume world wide deployed ADSL line cards.

“The high integration of Infineon’s ADSL chipset allowed us to implement a 64-channel ADSL data only line card that meets our aggressive cost, space and performance goals,” said Dr. Hermann Rodler, Vice President Access Solutions Siemens ICN.

“We are delighted that Siemens ICN, a world leading provider of DSLAM systems, has chosen Infineon’s Geminax ADSL solution for it’s high volume XpressLink system,” said Christian Wolff, Vice President of Infineon’s Communications Business Group and General Manager of the Access Business Unit. “Siemens ICN’s selection of the Geminax chipset is a further validation of our product roadmap and extends our market success as an xDSL supplier providing ADSL, SHDSL and VDSL solutions.”

The Geminax chipset provides a single programmable hardware platform for line cards supporting ADSL data-only, integrated voice/data, and POTS channels. It supports all of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as well as regional specifications for ADSL and ADSL2 data links. The Geminax also offers a seamless migration path towards the emerging ADSL+ standard, thus enabling equipment manufacturers to use a single line card for global deployment.
