Infineon Technologies Bipolar introduced a cost efficient product portfolio of 60 mm Thyristor/Diode modules in pressure contact technology. The new Eco Block family addresses the rising pressure for cost down for larger modules used in battery chargers, static and bypass switches. Additionally, the modules are a perfect fit for soft starters as well as rectifiers for drives and uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Due to their higher junction temperature the Eco Block Modules are aiming at applications with air-cooled designs.
In order to get the optimum performance and keep the production fast & clean they will be also available with Thermal Interface Material (TIM).
The Eco Block modules feature all essential functions while stripping down costly extras. The used pressure contact technology guarantees a short-on-fail behavior, which means that in case of failure the device is safely shorted. The short-on-fail behavior prevents from arcing in application failures which allows for simplified safety designs in terms of unit shielding and fusing effort.
Furthermore the used pressure contact technology offers a high overload capacity due to big thermal mass which absorbs high energy in short time range. The avoidance of soldered connections and bond wires eliminates the main aging effects in cycling loads. This results in a high reliability of the module regarding power cycling.
Combined, these features help to minimize failure rates and reduce system cost. With its proven reliability and functionality, the Eco Block offers the best value for money for a 60 mm pressure contact module in the market.
The 60 mm Eco Block family with pressure contact technology is available in high quantities. All modules are offered in the topologies Thyristor/Thyristor and Thyristor/Diode with a blocking voltage of 1600 V or 2200 V and in current ratings from 540 A to 630 A. In order to get the optimum performance and keep the production fast & clean they will be also available with pre-applied Thermal Interface Material (TIM). In 2021 we will introduce further products with 1800 V blocking capability.
