16FX Family
16-bit MCU which covers the range from 64KB to 832KB embedded Flash memory
The 16FX family features a 16-bit CISC architecture for optimized performance and low power consumption. The wide product range is appropriate for a variety of applications, from automotive devices that support the Controller Area Network (CAN) to industrial and consumer applications including systems controllers and sub-controllers for audio visual equipment, white goods, office equipment, and industrial equipment.
The CY96300 series of the 16FX family features a 16 bit CISC CPU with an operating speed up to 56MHz, a performance of some 15 to 30MIPS (Dhrystone 2.1, depending on device), and a minimum instruction cycle of 17.8ns. Fast interrupt handling (10 clock cycles for INT start and nine clock cycles for INT return) and powerful DMA functions qualify these MCUs for demanding control applications. The devices have a wide operating voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V.
The CY96600 series of the family is based on an improved CPU with significantly increased internal bus bandwidth.
Memory options include from 64KB to 832KB, dual-operation, embedded Flash memory and several mask ROM options.
Specific 16FX power-reduction features include a reduced internal CPU supply voltage, fewer clocks per instruction (CPI), and a peripheral clock speed that can be selected independently from the CPU speed. The result is a 78% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous Infineon 16-bit MCUs with the same performance.
A security feature incorporated on some devices prevents unauthorized reading of the content of the Flash memory. Hardware watchdog timers, an alarm comparator and brownout detectors enhance security.
Enhanced features include support for CAN and Local Interconnect Network (LIN), an on-chip LCD controller, a stepper motor controller (SMC), and an I2C bus interface. Other advanced features include analog input channels, an external bus interface, USB and SPI interfaces and a Quadrature Position Revolution Counter (QPRC). There are selectable port levels for CMOS, TTL and automotive levels, and an inverter motor control feature with up to 6-channel stepper motor control. The devices are available in 48- to 144-pin packages.
CY96300/CY96600 series are supported only for the customers who have already adopted any of the products. These are not recommended for new designs.
