Infineon ermöglicht leistungsfähige drahtlose CPE-Designs für Sprache, Video und Daten - höchstintegrierter Netzwerk-Prozessor wird von Astor Technology eingesetzt

München und Taipei, Taiwan – 31. Mai 2005 – Infineon Technologies AG, ein führender Anbieter von Kommunikations-ICs, kündigte mit dem Dual-Band-Netzwerkprozessor WildPass die industrieweit höchstintegrierte SoC (System-on-Chip)-Lösung für drahtlose Netze (802.11 a/g) an. Mit seinen verschiedenen Onchip-Schnittstellen, einschließlich USB 2.0 und IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics), kann WildPass nahtlos in eine Vielzahl von Netzwerkanwendungen integriert werden. Dazu zählen u.a. VoIP-Zugangslösungen, Router und Gateways sowie Media- und Druck-Server. Der neue Chip unterstützt simultane Triple-Play-Dienste für Sprache, Video und Daten über LAN- und WAN-Verbindungen. Die Dual-Band- und WPA2-Sicherheitsfunktionalität (802.11i) von WildPass zusammen mit dem Onboard-WLAN-Transceiver gewährleisten eine sichere Kommunikation mit allen marktüblichen WLAN-Lösungen. Mit WildPass können Systemhersteller ihre Komponentenkosten, die Systemkomplexität und Entwicklungszeiten reduzieren, um den wachsenden Anforderungen nach integrierten drahtlosen Triple-Play-Diensten nachzukommen.

Infineons WildPass wurde von Astor Technology, einer Accton Firma und führendem CPE-Anbieter, für ihre neue NAS (Network Attached Storage)-Familie namens Picasso ausgewählt. Das Picasso-System von Astor nutzt das IDE-Interface des WildPass für eine externe Festplatte und die USB2.0-Host-Schnittstelle für die Unterstützung eines weiteren externen Festplatten-Laufwerks im LAN-Netzwerk. Durch den einfachen Plug&Play-Aufbau können Anwender ihre bestehenden Systeme problemlos mit den Picasso-Speicherservern erweitern und so mit wichtiger Funktionalität für den Daten-Backup oder als zentrale Speichereinheit mit Multimedia-File-Sharing für Filme, MP3, Spiele, etc. versehen.

Nach Einschätzungen des Marktforschungsunternehmens Gartner Inc. wird die Verfügbarkeit von preiswerten Gateways und Access-Lösungen für 802.11 a/g die Marktdurchdringung durch diesen Standard weiter beschleunigen. Gartner prognostiziert einen Anstieg von 63 Millionen ausgelieferten Einheiten in 2004 auf mehr als 209 Millionen in 2007.

Infineon bietet mit WildPass höchste Design-Flexibilität

WildPass hat sowohl PCM- als auch SPI-Schnittstellen für Voice-over-IP-Applikationen integriert. Über MII erfolgt der Anschluss an breitbandige Uplink-Technologien (xDSL, Glasfaser oder Kabel-Modems), während per SDRAM- und Flash-Interfaces externe Speicher angeschlossen werden können. Über seine hardwaremäßige NAT (Network Address Translation)-Einheit können mehrere PCs oder Internetzugangsgeräte (Video-on-Demand Media-Server, Spielekonsolen, Personal Media Gateways, etc.) in einem Netzwerk gleichzeitig auf das Internet zugreifen, und zwar bei voller Geschwindigkeit für LAN- und WAN-Verbindungen. Mit WildPass erweitert Infineon sein umfangreiches Portfolio an CPE-Kommunikationslösungen. Zusammen mit anderen Infineon-Produkten wie Amazon (ADSL2+), VINAX-CPE (VDSL 2), Samurai (Layer 2 Switch) und VINETIC (VoIP-Prozessor) sind vielfältige End-to-End-Lösungen möglich.

WildPass wird auf dem Broadband World Forum in Yokohama, Japan, (31. Mai bis 2. Juni 2005), auf der Computex, Taipei, Taiwan (31. Mai bis 4. Juni 2005) und auf der SuperComm 2005 in Chicago, USA, (6. bis 9. Juni 2005) präsentiert.

WildPass wird in 289- und 324-BGA-Gehäusen angeboten. Muster sind ab Juni 2005 verfügbar und der Start der Serienproduktion ist für Juli 2005 geplant.
