Infineon’s low voltage OptiMOS™ portfolio offers high-end power MOSFETs in all voltage classes and packages allowing the designer to find the best combination of price and performance for his application. Short overload conditions confront the designer very often with huge thermal challenges. A deeper understanding of this topic results in a well-balanced combination of low-ohmic MOSFETs and improved thermal design.
The well known problems in a buck converter are overshoot and EMI issues. The overshoot problem, appearing during the high-side turn-on inbetween two MOSFETs, is adressed within the buck converter. Three possible solutions for solving the problems are shown: improve the layout of buck converter, use components with smaller stray inductance or by using MOSFTES technologies that helps to minimize the problems (like Infineon's packages CanPAK or SuperSO8)
Switch Mode Power Supplies (LAB Session)
This Lab Session features a ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) phaseshift topology, a very important application of Infineon`s CoolMOS™ and OptiMOS™ families, which is widely used in high performance DC/DC converter stages, server and telecom SMPS . Infineon experts are showing details of this topology, which integrates a CoolMOS™ CFD2 and an OptiMOS™ device, and thus achieves Zero Voltage Switching at very load light load.
