Shaping the future

Digital & Sustainable

Making “life easier, safer and greener" - these words characterize Infineon's energy-efficient products as well as our way of living together. For Infineon Austria, sustainability means keeping a balance between intelligent management and a conscious approach to people and the environment.

We act out of conviction and are continuously committed: Since 1997, Infineon Austria has voluntarily committed itself to the EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) of the European Union and is committed to the international environmental management standard ISO 14001. With the global Infineon management system IMPRES (Infineon Integrated Management Program for Environment, Energy, Safety and Health), we have processes and standards in the company that is continuously optimized.

All guiding principles, data and measures of Infineon Austria can be found in the current Environmental Statement 2021.

Sustainability as a guiding principle

Sustainability is part of our mission since years. We have been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since 2010 and have been one of the most sustainable companies in the world for 12 years in a row. With all the measures and activities, we want to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Climate protection and carbon footprint

We want to contribute to climate protection through our responsible business practices as well as through intelligent technologies. Infineon Austria enables CO2 savings 58 times higher than our emissions through products developed and manufactured at the site (see picture below). Infineon Austria's energy-saving chips make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 footprints in applications and are an important lever for energy efficiency. Semiconductor technologies help to minimize energy losses, achieve higher device and application performance and use energy responsibly. Read more about energy-efficient technologies.

We use digital technologies in our company - keyword "Industry 4.0" - to be more efficient and conserve resources. The Villach site is implementing a number of measures to this end - here is an excerpt:

  • Energy is sourced 100 percent from renewable energy sources with a certificate of origin
  • Intelligent waste heat recycling from production covers around 80 percent of the site's heating requirements.
  • The digital networking of plants, processes, the use of smart sensors and energy-saving LED lighting improves energy efficiency, reduces energy consumption and optimizes the use of resources.
  • One contribution to the circular economy is the recycling of green hydrogen, which will be used as fuel in public transport after being used in chip production.
  • The company's "Green Way" program provides e-cars, e-utility vehicles and e-charging stations, promotes environmentally friendly mobility for the workforce, such as through the "job ticket" that enables free travel to work by public transport, and networks with relevant partners to improve public transport connections.

CO2 Balance of Infineon Austria

With the CO2 balance we show our ecological net benefit, i.e. how much CO2 equivalent we emit as a company and how much our products help to save in return. Through our innovations and solutions in the areas of energy efficiency, mobility and security, Infineon enables ecologically sustainable applications and enables savings of around 7 million tons of CO2. The net ecological benefit is thus around 7 million tons of CO2.
