Memory production in Villach is coming to an end

Jan 18, 1988 | Market News

The last two years of the 1980s were characterized by constant change in the Villach production landscape: 1988 saw the start of production ramp-ups for ACMOS3 (Advanced CMOS), devices in CMOS technology with a minimum structure width of 1.5 μm, and SIPMOS (Siemens Power MOS), power transistors with particularly low on-resistance and high current-carrying capacity. In addition to that, the transfer of bipolar technology from Munich to Villach started too.

The detachment from the memory business is also noticeable in EZM: On January 18, 1988, the new "mind factory" opens with the clear objective of further advancing the already started reorientation towards highly intelligent electronics applications.
