The birth of our Innovation Fab

The team at the time used the low point of the 1976 crisis as an opportunity: Villach introduced the "Improvement Suggestion System" (VW) with rewards for innovative ideas. Even then, it was recognized that the active involvement of all employees was necessary to secure and strengthen the international competitiveness of the company. After all, the competitive pressure from the sister plant in Singapore (by the way, they celebrate their 50th anniversary too) and the significantly lower labor costs were high.

It was a special feature of Villach to come up with improvements time and again. However, these were quickly made available to the sister plant. Wolfgang Spalek, site manager at that time: "We only have one chance here: motivated employees and the highest possible degree of automation.
