The Infineon "Smart Learning" initiative is being launched for the first time in Upper Austria at the Linz Technical Center. With energy efficiency, smart mobility and the Internet of Things, Infineon has highly relevant topics for the education of the future at the ready. It is an active contribution to education with its finger on the pulse and to a strong technical workforce in the region.

With the new school year 22/23, the "Smart Learning" initiative of the semiconductor company Infineon Austria starts at the HTBLA II Linz, Paul-Hahn-Straße, also known as "Linzer Technikum" or "LiTec" for short. "Smart Learning" means using the latest digital technologies for learning and teaching technology and linking them with analog learning experiences, such as working in teams, social exchange and close ties to industry practice. The school team has its own technology contact person from the Infineon site in Linz for this purpose.

Smart World - Smart Learning since 2019

Infineon Austria can already draw on successful "Smart Learning" experiences: Since 2019, the five-year concept has been running at five HTLs in Carinthia. With safe and smart mobility, Internet of Things, energy technology, Industry 4.0, robotics or systems engineering, Infineon has not only "cool" but also highly relevant topics that combine theory and practice with digital methods.

Sabine Herlitschka, CEO of Infineon Austria. "Forward-looking technology training is more in demand than ever at a time when new technologies are urgently needed for the sustainable mobility and energy transition. With 'Smart Learning' we create an attractive educational offer and show how meaningful and exciting technology is and that it is also fun. The students thus become real shapers of the future. The experience gained so far at Carinthian schools is already bearing fruit. Infineon has long been committed to promoting the skills of young people and actively addressing the shortage of skilled workers. We would now like to make this possible beyond Carinthia."

Linz Technical Center - Ready for "Smart Learning

For the Linz Technikum, the Infineon "Smart Learning" initiative is another innovative milestone in its more than 50-year existence. Norbert Ramaseder, Director of the Linz Technikum: "We are very pleased to have Infineon as a partner for the first time, a partner that works with our motivated school team on many levels over the long term. This brings a practical quality to the educational partnership with companies. We show attractive job profiles and motivate people for technology."

In the first "Smart Learning" year at the Linz Technikum, the main focus is on exchanging know-how and getting to know each other. Current topics and state-of-the-art technologies of an internationally operating company will be made accessible to the school team. For example, the "LiTec Car" will be further developed with the latest Infineon radar and magnetic sensors, LED lights or drive modules, or other innovative student projects will be supported.

Know-how with digital tools

Through the "Smart Learning" cooperation, the schools can use the latest Infineon demo kits, sensors or hardware or software applications, supplement their digital infrastructure and actively network with experts from industry. This is achieved, for example, through company visits, guest lectures, participation in Infineon School events, project work, diploma theses or internships. In the interaction between school and industry, the young talents receive the necessary qualifications as well as professional perspectives in a digitalized working world.

Infineon Linz: Mobility and Communication Technology for the World Market

With the Infineon development site in Linz, the school team has a highly interesting high-tech partner in the immediate vicinity whose know-how is in demand worldwide. The Infineon team in Linz works on key technologies for secure mobile communications applications and driver assistance systems for automated mobility. Infineon is the technology and world market leader in this field, having currently sold more than 300 million radar chips. The achievements of the development team in Linz have already received several awards, such as the 2021 Upper Austrian State Prize for Innovation and the Road Safety Award.

Manfred Ruhmer, head of the Infineon development site in Linz: "For globally successful innovations, a strong education and innovation network is needed locally in the region. As an established development site within the Group, we offer technical talent an ideal local docking point. We are therefore very much looking forward to working with the Linz Technical Center and want to get young people excited about us here in Linz at an early stage."

Future-oriented training in Linz

"Successful cooperation between schools and industry strengthens the location as a whole," says Martin Hajart, Vice Mayor of Linz, and continues: "With Infineon, we have a leading international corporation in Linz that actively networks, cooperates and also passes on knowledge from industrial practice. This makes it possible to work on important infrastructure topics as early as the training stage, whether in intelligent mobility or in communications solutions. This benefits Linz as a location for innovation."
