Infineon builds new, sustainable logistics building at the Villach site

Mar 6, 2023 | Business & Financial Press

Infineon Austria will start the construction of a new logistics building at the Villach site in March. The new building will bundle the logistics areas and office space currently spread across the site in one location. Around 15 million euros will be invested. Completion of the building is scheduled for the end of October 2023, with commissioning starting in January 2024. Particular attention was paid to sustainable solutions in construction and use for the building.

Due to the dynamic expansions in recent years, the logistics area must also be adapted to existing and future requirements. In the future, the logistics building will be located near the new chip factory. On a usable area of around 5,500 m 2, state-of-the-art logistics areas for goods receiving, shipping and warehousing, storage areas and office space are being created. Around 50 employees work in the logistics area.

Logistics building as "Green Building" with photovoltaic system

The building is constructed and used under numerous aspects of sustainability. In the course of a green building certification, the installation of a photovoltaic system is a fixed component of the concept, in addition to all necessary structural measures. Supplementary measures such as roof greening are planned in the concept.

Thomas Reisinger, Board Member for Operations: "In the course of our growth, the logistics areas distributed around the site and the traffic on the plant premises have also reached their limits. Now we are ensuring the smooth handling of all material flows in the long term as well as optimal integration into ongoing operations. With the ‘Green Building’ implementation, we are consistently pursuing our sustainable path in our processes and our behavior within the company, thus also contributing to the Infineon Group target - CO 2 neutrality by 2030."
