DICE / Comneon
Research & Development
DICE and Comneon are the names of Infineon’s associated R&D companies in Linz. The development activities for the mobile communications and mobile phone solutions segments are pooled in a joint office building.
DICE develops high-frequency and baseband semiconductors for second- and third-generation mobile systems (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS), wireless LAN and for automotive and consumer applications. The sustained innovative strength of DICE in designing integrated circuits also relies on the close collaboration with research and educational institutes in the vicinity, such as the Johannes Kepler University Linz and the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg.
Together with Comneon Linz, DICE defines multimedia applications for future generations of cell phones. DICE plays a part in technologies for safety in the car: for example, Infineon had the chip for automotive radar systems developed in Linz.
The employees of Comneon develop the software for mobile telephony. The APOXI (Application Programming Object- oriented eXtendable Interface) product deployed in over 60 different mobile phones worldwide was developed here. A total of over 30 million phones with APOXI have been sold so far. In addition to telecommunications, the site is also focused on the development of software for embedded systems for the automotive and automation sectors.
