Fridge, freezer, dish washer and washing machine
According to an IEA study, all of the world's wind power stations combined cannot make up for all the energy wasted by household appliances in standby mode. Now a new generation of consumers has come to value energy conservation. People want smart, efficient household equipment that delivers environmentally responsible performance while helping to cut their utility costs. Microchips feature in many of these appliances enabling reductions in power loss up to 90 percent.
Induction cooking
Cooking is an area with enormous saving potential. The use of induction cookers is relatively new, but offers very promising energy saving potential compared to electric or gas cookers. Efficiency improvement by induction cookers with Infineon IGBT products is for example 25 percent/year in Germany compared to electric cookers. more...
Rice cooker
In induction cookers a large current flows through a coil under the hot plate. The current is constantly switched on and off or reversed creating likewise constantly changing magnetic fields. They now produce eddies in the pot which heat its special material. Hence the heat is produced not only at the bottom but also in the wall of the pot. This and the reduced energy consumption are probably the reasons why at present you can practically see the induction cooker market growing in Asia.
Microwave
In inverter microwaves the traditional transformer-capacitor topology is replaced by a soft inverter. This improves the efficiency and the performance of the microwave significantly. It leads to faster cooking through improving the efficiency of the power supply. Conventional MWO only operate on constant power when "High" or "Full" is selected. Lower power levels are achieved by pulsing the MWO on and off. This is particularly noticeable in defrost mode, when food can sometimes seem hot or cooked on the outside, whilst remaining cold or semi-frozen inside. Inverter-based MWO gives complete control over power levels, so that when lower power is selected, a constant lower output is provided. This ensures that food is cooked or heated more evenly.
