The principle of ultrasonicwelding for auxiliary and load terminals
The DIN EN 14610 and DIN 1910-100 standards define welding as an indissoluble
bonding ofmaterials using heat or pressure, with or without additional weldingmaterials.
The ultrasonic welding described here is a form of friction welding. The ultrasonic
weldingmethod developed by Infineon Technologies for power modules, whichwas first
used in 2006 in the PrimePACK
family, is therefore comparable with the ultrasonic
wire bonds previously mentioned, except that it is not µm-thin aluminium wires being
welded, but heavy copper bonds.
