6.7.2 Collector-emitter clamping (ActiveClamping)
When overload currents or short circuits happen, over-voltage surges occur because of
values and the stray inductance present in the commutation path, which may
exceed the breakdown voltage of the IGBT and destroy it. In applications with high DC-
bus voltages, this can severely limit the useable range of the IGBT. One way of
protecting the IGBT from these high voltage peaks is collector-emitter clamping, also
