Automotive Transceivers

Because of the ever-increasing demand for information exchange between electronic control units inside modern vehicles, the automotive manufacturers implemented different communication In Vehicle Networks (IVN).
While FlexRay is covering applications with high data rates or safety relevance , CAN (Controller Area Network) is used in networks where the exchange between modules requires a medium data rate. Complementing these two is the LIN (Local Interconnect Network) protocol-based bus system, which is mainly used for data exchange of comfort related functions or signaling with low data rate requirements.
One of the basic building blocks, common to all FlexRay, CAN and LIN networks, is the physical layer transceiver. The transceiver is the link between the protocol unit, typically in a micro controller, and the network bus cable, embedded in the vehicle wire harness. In addition to transmitting and receiving signals between the micro controller and the network, the transceiver also provides a wide range of protection features as well as fault-diagnosis capability.
Infineon offers a broad product range of automotive transceivers for the different IVN bus segments like FlexRay, High Speed CAN with and without bus wake functionality, low speed CAN as well as LIN.
