IR's IRS2573DS HID Electronic Ballast Control IC Wins EDN China Innovation Award 2010 for Best Power Device

Nov 22, 2010 | Market News

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced the full-featured IRS2573DS High-Intensity Discharge (HID) electronic ballast control IC for low-, medium- and high-power general purpose industrial HID applications was voted leading product in the Power Devices and Modules category of the EDN China Innovation Awards, 2010.

Now in its sixth year, the EDN China Innovation Awards is a premier event for China's engineering community. This year, over 200,000 electronic design engineers and manufacturers were invited to vote for their top picks among almost 200 products from 95 of the world's leading manufacturers.

The IRS2573DS combines a high-side, dual-mode buck controller together with a full-bridge driver. The device's novel buck circuitry enables continuous-conduction mode control during lamp warm-up and critical-conduction mode during steady state running. The full-bridge driver includes all high- and low-side gate driver outputs as well as integrated bootstrap MOSFETs for the high-side supply voltages.

"With our focus on developing cutting edge power management solutions, IR continually strives to introduce innovative solutions that help meet our customers' design challenges. We are very pleased that in being voted leading power device, the IRS2573DS has received such strong support from the China engineering community," said Adam White, IR's senior vice president, Worldwide Sales.

The 600 V device offers a high degree of flexibility and programmability. The IRS2573DS incorporates a state machine for controlling the lamp during various operating modes including ignition, warm-up, running and fault mode, and features a multiplier circuit to accurately measure and control lamp power. Additionally, the IRS2573DS offers comprehensive fault detection and fault timer circuitry to detect open circuit, short circuit, failure to ignite, failure to warm-up, and lamp end-of-life fault conditions, as well as lamp ignition enabler and timer.
