Infineon’s New Software Suite Cuts Time-to-Market and Improves System Cost Position for VoIP and Broadband Access Applications

Apr 24, 2006 | Market News

Munich, Germany – April 24, 2006 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading supplier of communication ICs, today introduced Spinacer, a new software suite for a wide range of broadband CPE applications based on Infineon’s semicon-ductor solutions. Spinacer consists of three Application Packages for ADSL2+ Gate-way, IP phone and Router solutions. These can be enhanced with Add-On packages that include WLAN, VoIP (SIP) and T.38 Fax Relay. Moving beyond the simple chip approach into a complete system offering, Infineon provides complete, highly integrated hardware/software solutions shortening design cycles, improving cost positions as well as offering a single point of contact for all support requirements. A customer starting such development from scratch would have to employ dozens of engineers over several years to obtain the same level of complete system solution and quality.

“By extending our value creation towards software we offer our customers a competitive advantage by shortening the time-to-market. Well ahead of the competition they can introduce fully functioning, feature rich solutions,” said Christian Wolff, Senior Vice President of the Communication Solutions Business Group and General Manager of the Wireline Access Business Unit at Infineon. “As an example, our advanced IP phone system-on-chip solution INCA-IP2, combined with our system reference design and the IP phone package of Spinacer, provides a ready-to-deploy IP phone.”

Spinacer is based on Infineon’s embedded Linux distribution that reduces the memory capacity by up to 60 percent depending on the application, while offering maximum flexibility. Spinacer’s modular architecture with easy-to-combine building blocks provides system designers the flexibility to choose the exact software functionality they require.
