Joint news release of Infineon and Millinet

Munich, Germany and Seoul, Korea - June 17, 2003 - Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX) today announced that Millinet, a leading venture business holding superior technology in the fields of IT and broadband access, has selected Infineon’s VDSL5100 chip set to allow 50Mbps services over its CVL-D5048 system. Millinet, an official supplier of 20Mbps VDSL systems to Korea Telecom (KT), now participates in the carrier’s benchmark test for 50Mbps access platforms.

“In order to keep our leading position in the fast growing broadband market in Korea, we have to be able to provide reliable and cost effective access solutions that support a range of high bandwidth applications," said Mr. Lee Sang-Chul, President and CEO of Millinet. "Following a series of lab tests and after evaluating several chip designers, we determined that the Infineon VDSL5100 solution was ideal for our CVL platform. Based on our past relations with Infineon and the success of our systems based on their 10baseS solutions, we look forward to expanding our VDSL base not only in Korea, but also in other APAC and worldwide markets.”

Millinet has provided KT with a total of about 510,000 ports of its 13Mbps and 20Mbps CVL family of systems based on Infineon’s 10BaseS™ EoVDSL chip sets in 2002. The company estimates a total gross sale of KRW50 billion (~US$40 million) from its VDSL business in 2002.

“Millinet is an important player in the booming Korean broadband market and a leader in VDSL deployment,” said Christian Wolff, Vice President of Infineon’s Wireline Communications Business Group and General Manager of the Access Business Unit. “We are happy to continue our mutual efforts to promote the adoption of VDSL technology around the world. Using systems designed with the VDSL5100, KT will be able to upgrade its existing network in simple and cost effective manner, while maintaining backward compatibility with its existing VDSL infrastructure.”

The Infineon VDSL5100 is a QAM VDSL chipset, fully compliant with all international standards requirements, and designed to support asymmetric data-rates of up to 70/40 Mbps and symmetric data-rates of up to 50/50 Mbps over a single copper pair. The VDSL5100 features software controlled band plan and transport protocol selection, including native Ethernet and ATM to provide flexible band allocations across the entire VDSL standard-defined spectrum.
