Munich, Germany – May 15, 2002 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), today announced an extension of their cooperation with SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned company of Solectron Corporation, for a highly optimized and customizable Bluetooth module based on Infineon’s Bluetooth V1.1 qualified BlueMoon™ Single IC. This agreement enables both companies to target the wide area ofvarious Bluetooth applications, in which plug and play solutions are required to ensure a fast time to market.

Modular solutions are a necessity when targeting OEMs that compete in the handheld, peripheral and automotive markets because of time sensitive issues that stem from a consumer driven product portfolio. This particular module addresses that need by combining the latest in Bluetooth components in a drop-in solution that can offer additional product longevity, higher levels of quality and a considerable cost advantage.

“OEMs have been looking for a complete Bluetooth system solution in a small form factor that is applicable for the growing demands of the mobile marketplace,” said Robert Ragusano, Business Unit Manager for the Communication Products Division of SMART. “Latest technology advancements, like Infineon’s BlueMoon Single IC, combined with SMART’s industry expertise, ability to integrate communications technologies and outstanding manufacturing capabilities, have positioned us as a leading technology integrator and strong strategic alliance.”

“With this latest product we strengthen the strategic alliance and cooperation between Infineon and SMART,” said Hubert Christl, Vice President and General Manager, Local Area Wireless at Infineon Technologies. “Customers get the benefit of significantly reduced time-to-market using this system solution for Bluetooth applications, achieving volume production in record time.”

SMART integrated the BlueMoon Single IC from Infineon into a very small and powerful module. With outstanding performance and high integration on the module itself, this product targets especially size sensitive applications, including handheld PDA’s and accessories such as mice and keyboards. BlueMoon Single IC’s wide temperature range capabilities, from –50°C to +105°C, make it ideal for automotive applications.
