Infineon and Metalink Demonstrate Industry's First Multivendor Interoperability at Supercomm - Standard QAM-VDSL Solutions restate its maturity for mass deployment

Jun 4, 2002 | Market News

Atlanta, June 4, 2002 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of integrated circuits for advanced communications systems, and Metalink Ltd. (NASDAQ: MTLK), a leader in providing high-performance broadband access chip sets, today announced that they will conduct interoperability demonstrations of their respective standards-based, 4-band QAM VDSL solutions at Supercomm 2002, June 4-6, Atlanta GA.

Infineon and Metalink will demonstrate video streaming over VDSL in their respective booths, Infineon # 23726 and Metalink #22332.

Based on the widely deployed, proven QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) line coding technology, Infineon’s and Metalink’s VDSL chipsets enable the transport of bandwidth-hungry revenue-generating applications such as high quality video, online interactive gaming and fast Internet access. Supporting ETSI and ANSI band allocation plans (plan 997, 998) the chipsets co-exist with all other xDSL technologies as well as with legacy voice and ISDN services.

QAM VDSL is a standard-compliant and proven, robust technology that enables to reduce total system cost by reducing the overall bill of material (BOM) and shrinking system footprint. Unlike the rival DMT technology, used successfully in ADSL, QAM was developed with VDSL in mind and is better suited for true bundled broadband services. The technology, which is now in its third generation, lowers design complexity at both ends of the network and enables access system vendors to offer high performance field-proven QAM-based VDSL products at competitive costs.
