Infineon Announces Availability of DDR400 Components Supporting Intel High Performance Roadmap; New PC3200 DIMMs to Boost PC Main Memory Performance

Feb 20, 2003 | Market News

Munich, Germany – February 20, 2003 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX) today announced the availability of a family of unbuffered DIMMs (dual-in-line memory modules) in 128MB (megabyte), 256MB and 512MB densities. Based on 256Mb (megabit) Double-Data-Rate 400 Mbps (DDR400) memory, the modules have been validated as compliant with Intel specifications and designed to meet the requirements of the proposed JEDEC PC3200 3.2 GBps (gigabyte-per-second) bandwidth specification for use in the main memory of high-performance desktop PCs and workstations.

"We will see DDR400 support the highest performance Pentium® 4 processor desktop and workstation systems in 2003. We are pleased that Infineon will support our roadmap by offering Intel compliant DDR400 memory for these applications," said Pete MacWilliams, Intel Senior Fellow.

"Our leading-edge fab process, with its high number of die per wafer, allows us to produce modules in volume almost instantaneously when the market begins to emerge,” said Heinz Florian, Vice President of Marketing and Logistics for Infineon Memory Products. “By the end of this year, we expect that DDR400 will be the memory of choice for high performance desktops and workstations, and we are pleased to be able to support the transition to these next generation systems.“

Price and Availability

Produced in the 0.14 micron process running in full production volume throughout Infineon’s 300mm and 200mm DRAM fab cluster, the PC3200 DIMMs and memory chips are available now. Sample pricing for the DIMMs ranges from US$30.00 to US$100.00, depending upon density. The 256 Mb DDR400 components are priced at US$6.00 in sample quantities.
