Infineon's PoVDSL Selected by ZyXEL: Powerful Standard 4-band QAM-VDSL Chipset Allows for up to 65Mbps Data Transmission Rates

Jul 23, 2002 | Market News

Munich, Germany, July 23, 2002 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of integrated circuits for advanced communication systems, today announced that ZyXEL Communications Corp. (TAI:2391.TW), a leading broadband access solutions provider, has selected Infineon’s standard-compliant Packet over QAM-VDSL chipset (PoVDSL) for its VES broadband access platform. Supporting up to 65Mbps data transmission rates the PoVDSL makes possible a wide range of services including video-on-demand, telemedicine, multiple-player gaming and fast Internet access.

Dr. Y.L. Chen, Senior VP of ZyXEL, said: “With this selection we are extending our long and fruitful relations with Infineon that began with our VES-1012 MTU/MHU system based on Infineon’s 10BaseS technology which led to real-life deployments in a number of hotels in Taipei and Copenhagen.” Dr. Chen added: “Our PoVDSL-based systems will feature increased bandwidth capabilities and will enable our telecommunications customers to offer a wide range of services including three interactive video channels, online gaming, telemedicine and more.”

QAM-VDSL is a robust technology featuring high immunity to impulse and outside noise interference. It also coexists with legacy voice, ISDN and all other DSL technologies. This is significantly important in highly evolved markets such as Japan, Korea and Taiwan where many technologies share the same copper infrastructure.

“We are very happy to expand our collaboration with ZyXEL, a leader in the field of broadband access systems, following their selection of the PoVDSL chipset.” said Vincent Sun, Country Manager, Infineon Taiwan. “Building on our extensive experience in Ethernet over VDSL technology both in the lab and on the field, we were able to equip ZyXEL with a fully functioning feature-rich solution significantly shortening time to market. The high integration level of our chipset, which results in a very small number of external components, makes the 4-band PoVDSL ideal in terms of system footprint and overall costs.” added Mr. Sun.
