Electromobility: Other Electrically Driven Systems

The efficiency of electric vehicles is increased if the battery provides current only when it is specifically needed. This is particularly important for numerous other systems such as air conditioning, steering, oil pump or cooling. That is the case since in pure or hybrid electric vehicles these systems run on current and they are also powered by the high-voltage battery. Here, again, it is necessary for the drive of these units to be designed as efficiently as possible because energy losses run down the battery without contributing to powering the units. 

Infineon offers all the semiconductor components for effective electric drives, i.e. sensors, microcontrollers and power semiconductors enabling highly efficient switching operations: The semiconductors of the MOSFET series and the IGBT power modules have been optimized for the purpose. The power and position sensors developed for automotive applications provide for accurate control of the systems. The microcontroller solutions ensure optimal operation of independent assistance systems – from air conditioning to complex systems such as electric power steering with built-in safety functions. Voltage regulators and bus transceivers put the finishing touches to Infineon’s range of products.
