FAQs

1. What information does the U-Spec provide?

Answer

The U-Spec provides data on all materials present within the unit product, as mass (g) and as % of unit total mass. If a material is not listed it is not present in the product. However, in some cases trace substances-of-concern or C2E List may be declared in the U-Spec.

2. Is the U-Spec a recognised standard?

Answer

The U-Spec is based on the principles of “Good Declaration Practice” (GDP). Standardization has been submitted to IEC (DKE K135, DIN 19220 (CDV 7/307 IEC)). The DIN 19220 national standard defines the process of declaration of substances in products of the Electrical and Electronic Industry without addressing detailed named substances. It organizes a hierarchy and data structure for reporting/declaration purposes. An international IEC standard is expected by 2005.
