ICE2QS01 – new levels of system efficiency with quasi-resonant PWM controller

Quasi-resonant flyback converters are widely used for offline power supplies due to their high efficiency and low Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). However, in a free-running quasi-resonant converter, this approach is limited at low load due to variable switching frequency behavior.
The new ICE2QS01 quasi-resonant Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) controller from Infineon solves this problem thanks to digital frequency modulation, which varies in accordance with the load, coupled with active burst mode at very low load. This significantly improves system efficiency across the entire load range. In addition, extensive protective features secure the power supply in the event of a fault, making the ICE2QS01 an excellent choice for real quasi-resonant flyback converters.
